Speakers will discuss some of the issues facing directors when they present operas from a culture different from the culture where the opera is being performed. Issues such as variations in the text used, casting of the singers and choice of set and costumes will be addressed. Also to be considered are questions arising from presentation of Asian themed operas, restrictions on cast and setting imposed by licensing and changing the original time or place for an opera.
