Trophies, cash prizes, certificates … none of that has changed for the 2017 Piano Competition. But (drum roll, please) we’re pleased to announce two new prizes –
For teachers – In each category, the teacher of the winning pianist will receive a plaque from the Festival to honor their role in their student’s accomplishments. After all, where would these students be without their teachers!
Grand Prize – The winner of the Richard L. Tang Yuk Award for Most Outstanding Performer will also win a grand prize, a two-day trip to Tanglewood on August 17-18, 2017. (One parent and the student’s teacher is included in this trip.) At Tanglewood, the renowned music festival and summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, the student, teacher, and parent will hear a concert featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Emmanuel Ax and attend a piano masterclass conducted by a member of the BSO.
The new prizes, as well as the cash awards, are sponsored by Jacobs Music, a long-time supporter of the competition and the area’s exclusive dealer in new Steinway and Yamaha pianos. “We are grateful to Jacobs Music for creating this opportunity to honor piano teachers as well as their students, and for giving competitors an added incentive to achieve excellence as artists,” said Richard Tang Yuk, General and Artistic Director of the Festival.
